Anyone can contribute. Share, edit, or browse pages related to Canadian music.

Welcome to the Canadian Music Wiki, an online resource created by CBC Radio 3 and Amanda Ash from the University of British Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of MITACS Accelerate.

This project is dedicated to using collaborative and social media to enrich Canada's music scene by creating a comprehensive guide to Canadian music. We welcome your contributions.

The Canadian Music Wiki is a wiki, meaning you can edit nearly any page at any time. This wiki strives to encourage artists, media and fans alike to contribute their knowledge to this digital resource. We hope it will serve as Canada's hub for everything music-related. So don't be shy; head over to the Getting Started page and learn how you can contribute. It's easy and fun!

Here are a few brief guidelines to follow:

1. Please keep a neutral point-of-view when contributing. The wiki pages aren't for opinion or discussion. They're for facts, biographical information and basic knowledge. However, we encourage you to click on the "discussion" links on each page if you want to start a conversation or share your thoughts. We're sure others would love to hear what you have to say!

2. If you see something is wrong—whether it is grammatical, factual, or formatting—be bold and fix it. This is YOUR wiki. Be proud of it.

3. Please don't vandalize. It's really not worth it.

4. The Canadian Music Wiki is free content.

This site is a beta version. If you have any comments or suggestions to improve this wiki, please email amanda_ash@cbcradio3.com.

LISTEN: Jennifer Castle "One Two Three"
listen Hey, it's that other  Canadian songstress singing about numbers! "One Two Three", from Jennifer Castle 's 2008 album Castlemusic , is an understated affair. Spare piano chords and a haunting vocal are the only ingredients here, and it's a wise move - in the absence of more instrumentation, every creak of the piano bench takes on a new importance. It's an intimate performance that gives the sense of sitting on the piano bench next to Castle as she plays.

You probably know The Daptone record label  from performers like Sharon Jones , who has been a huge success for the label. Daptone has a history of releasing some killer funk and soul records that really capture the vintage sound of soul music from the late 60s and early 70s. Jones has a classic vintage sound — even though her first full album was recorded less than a decade ago.    Then there’s Charles Bradley . He was born in 1948, but released his first album just last year. He’d been [...]

Still, Falsini's soundtrack has become a cult favourite, which is why we're pleased to report that it will be receiving a proper reissue via the ever-consistent Spectrum Spools imprint. Best known for his work with the prog group Sensations' Fix, Cold Nose was Falsini's first solo work. As a press [...]

WATCH: Tyler, The Creator performs “Orange Juice” with BADBADNOTGOOD
A few months ago we shared videos of young jazz prodigies BADBADNOTGOOD collaborating with Tyler, The Creator on his tracks “Fish” and “Seven” during OFWGKTA’s tour stop in Toronto. Now here's another brand new video from that session, in which Tyler joins the band for a performance for “Orange Juice” from OFWGKTA’s mixtape Radical. BBNG caught Tyler's attention with their Odd Future Sessions , in which they performed experimental jazz interpretations of Odd Future songs, as well as their [...]
WATCH: A clip of James Murphy acting in The Comedy has surfaced!
This year’s Sundance Film Festival found LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy in not one, but two separate films, one of which is the previously reported on Shut Up, and Play the Hits , a documentary on the titular group’s final show. The second is Rick Alverson’s new film The Comedy , which features Murphy in a supporting role, alongside Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim (of Tim and Eric Awesome Show! fame). The Comedy details the life of an aging New York hipster (Heidecker), who is emotionally [...]
WATCH: Young Magic - “Night in the Ocean” official music video
Coastal landscapes and morphing geometry make up Young Magic’s new music video, the follow up to their previous, equally striking clip for “Sparkly” . Their second go at it, directed by Andrew De Freitas, departs from the clean look of time-lapses and slow motion, and goes into an abstract performance of shape and pattern – on bodies, and over nature. The video takes foggy, spotted footage of cliffs and forests, and combines them with an intimate view of a couple applying lines and [...]
YouTube/Google rejects Perfume Genius' mildly homoerotic video ad; R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe reacts
In an offensive effort to be inoffensive, Google/YouTube has rejected a 15-second ad for Seattle singer-songwriter Perfume Genius’ hotly anticipated follow-up Put Your Back N 2 It , insisting it “contains non family safe material.” The ad, which depicts Perfume Genius’ Mike Hadreas and gay porn star Arpad Miklios embracing shirtless, was promptly rejected by YouTube after Matador attempted to upload the video this past week. After which, Matador received from YouTube a rather glib response, which [...]

I know you were planning to spend five bucks to go hear some DJ with neck tattoos play his collection of '70s funk MP3's tonight, but here's something even better ! Two former members of the iconic noise/shoegaze outfit The Jesus and Mary Chain, Bobby Gillespie (drums, 1985-86) and Douglas Hart (bass, 1984-91), assembled this excellent mixtape that collects some of the music that was being played in the band's tour van in the early years of their career.
