The Mainlanders are a folk rock band from Orangeville, Ont, and have been writing, and performing over the last eight years, through out the Southern Ontario region.
The Mainlanders sound ranges from East Coast stomp, and sea water shanty's, to more contemperary sounds. Canadian story's often are the forefront of the bands musical direction, and such was the case with the bands first album release of, " Old Country Store ", including songs like...
Old John Silver. The story of the rum running days.
Rogers Pass. telling the story of the men who risked their lives, on the western part of the Canadian Railroad.
Ghosts Of The Lakes. A song of rememberance, to those many ships, and their crew, who have been lost to our Great Lakes.
Road To Kandahar. A song dedicated to our men, and women, preserving peace for others in Afghanistan.
Voyageurs, tells the story of our first trappers, and explorers, of Canada's new wilderness.
Something New, which tells the story of the fishing moratotium, that was designed for saving the fish stocks, back in the 1990's
Pier 21. A song to remind us of all the imagrants, who have made passage to Canada, in the years past. Note- Pier 21 celebrated it's 100th anniversary, in 2009.
The second album by The Mainlanders entitled, " Strangers No More " was released in Dec.2010, and offers more story's from the Canadian landscape, with 15 songs this time around.
From story's about the gold rush, Halifax's worst maritime disaster, to a train accident in the 1800's, in Quebec, and the last of the light house keepers.
