Anyone can contribute. Share, edit, or browse pages related to Canadian music.

Welcome to the Canadian Music Wiki, an online resource created by CBC Radio 3 and Amanda Ash from the University of British Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of MITACS Accelerate.

This project is dedicated to using collaborative and social media to enrich Canada's music scene by creating a comprehensive guide to Canadian music. We welcome your contributions.

The Canadian Music Wiki is a wiki, meaning you can edit nearly any page at any time. This wiki strives to encourage artists, media and fans alike to contribute their knowledge to this digital resource. We hope it will serve as Canada's hub for everything music-related. So don't be shy; head over to the Getting Started page and learn how you can contribute. It's easy and fun!

Here are a few brief guidelines to follow:

1. Please keep a neutral point-of-view when contributing. The wiki pages aren't for opinion or discussion. They're for facts, biographical information and basic knowledge. However, we encourage you to click on the "discussion" links on each page if you want to start a conversation or share your thoughts. We're sure others would love to hear what you have to say!

2. If you see something is wrong—whether it is grammatical, factual, or formatting—be bold and fix it. This is YOUR wiki. Be proud of it.

3. Please don't vandalize. It's really not worth it.

4. The Canadian Music Wiki is free content.

This site is a beta version. If you have any comments or suggestions to improve this wiki, please email amanda_ash@cbcradio3.com.

Five amazing Tim Burton and Danny Elfman moments
I don’t usually root for box sets at the Grammy Awards — let alone purchase or even pay that much attention to box sets in general —  but the nod by the Recording Academy to composer Danny Elfman and director Tim Burton’s 25th Anniversary Music Box has me rooting. It also has me reflecting on how much amazing stuff they’ve worked on together. Here are just seven impressive collaborations. 1. Pee-Wee's Big Adventure : 'Breakfast Machine' (Jump to 1:23 )   2. Batman :  'Batman to [...]
ill esha: DIY duchess droppin' bass in the bay
Under the playful name of ill-esha , Elysha Zaide has made her mark from her hometown of Vancouver since the late nineties. She started off humbly enough as a house vocalist before moving into drum & bass. Then she caught the DJ bug, quickly earned her first residency, playing to twenty-odd people at a martini bar. Though she was fired when they found out she was only 16, the experience was invaluable. Soon, ill-esha was not only DJing and singing, but getting credits on records and producing [...]
Six Rock docs on Netflix Canada worth watching
If you’re like me, you spend all of your time on Netflix looking for something to good to watch. For all of those who are going through the growing pains of legal video streaming in Canada, here is a list of six rock docs worth your time and that pricey $7.99 a month . 6. It Might Get Loud (directed by David Guggenheim)  This film profiles three legendary rock guitarists: Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, U2’s The Edge and The White Stripes’ Jack White. The line that weaves in and out [...]
Video: 'My First Hardcore Song,' by eight-year-old Juliet
Juliet is eight, and she just released her first hardcore song! When I was eight, I created choreography to “Kokomo” with my cousin Morgan in our grandma’s basement. You? I hope you had a hardcore song.
    Mile Davis goes postal
Interested in getting your hands on a brand new Miles Davis lick? How about a terrible jazz postal pun? What I’m trying to say is there’s a new Miles Davis stamp. The U.S. and French postal services announced that a new Miles Davis stamp will be available in a joint issue by the two services in June . They will also be issuing an Edith Piaf stamp at the same time. The Davis stamp features the artist in profile, striking his trademark knees-bent, leaning-back trumpeting pose. It’s the [...]

Nick Cave, Deborah Harry, Mark Lanegan & Isobell Campbell Contribute to Jeffrey Lee Pierce Tribute
Back in 2009, a collection of musicians got together for We Are Only Riders , which reworked some unfinished songs written by deceased Gun Club singer/guitarist Jeffery Lee Pierce, and it looks as if there was plenty of unmined material to sift through, as a second compilation has now been announced. Titled The Journey Is Long , this second collection contains 18 tracks apparently left incomplete when Pierce died of a brain hemorrhage in 1996. Glitterhouse Records will drop the disc on March [...]
Royce Da 5'9" Cuts Across Canada on Upcoming Tour
Canadian hip-hop fans get ready: Royce Da 5'9" starts up a Canuck trek this week. The Detroit rapper had a stellar 2011, with the Slaughterhouse spitter not only releasing his solo effort Success Is Certain but also the Bad Meets Evil EP, Hell: The Sequel , with collaborator Eminem. Without set lists to go by, it's hard to say for sure, but chances are pretty good that Royce Da 5'9" will rep both records on the trip (sans Em, though). The 14-show tour starts up this Thursday (February 9) [...]
Bend Sinister Return with 'On My Mind' EP, Canadian Tour
West Coast unit Bend Sinister have yet to release a full-length follow-up to 2008's Stories of Brothers, Tales of Lovers , but at least the band have some new tunes to deliver to their devoted next month, via their upcoming five-song EP On My Mind . The mini-platter arrives March 6 through File Under: Music. Described as coming "from a band that clearly knows that their capabilities as players and songwriters are limitless," the record apparently touts a sound that seamlessly bounces from [...]
Cro-Mags' Harley Flanagan Signs to Southern Lord
With a roster including Sunn O))), Wolves in the Throne Room and Black Breath, Southern Lord is a hub for some current heavy big hitters, but the label has just announced a new partnership with a true hardcore icon: Cro-Mags founder/bassist Harley Flanagan. A press release explains that Southern Lord has teamed up with the musician for "several upcoming releases." Considering Flanagan's imprint on New York's punk scene, from being the pre-teen drummer for early '80s outfit the Stimulators [...]

WATCH: The Shins – “September” lyric video
Earlier in January, The Shins returned after a five year hiatus with “Simple Song,” the first single off their upcoming album Port of Morrow . The album has a planned released date of March 20, but for all you impatient fans, The Shins will release a 7" next week featuring “Simple Song” and their new track “September” as the b-side. The latter track now has accompanying visuals inspired by Port of Morrow 's album artwork created by Jacob Escobedo. The clip sees the lyrics of “September” [...]
WATCH: Bon Iver performs “Holocene” and “Beth/Rest” on Saturday Night Live; Kristen Wiig impersonates Lana Del Rey
Recent Grammy performance snubbers Bon Iver performed on Saturday Night Live last night. Spoiler alert: It was very good. Frontman Justin Vernon had told SPIN earlier in the week that “whenever we listen to [Beth/Rest] we feel this extra... ‘Yes. We're going to do this, motherfuckers.’ It's not irony.” The '90s mainstream cinematic closer from their self-titled album was delicately handled as their second song on the show, and they delivered a hauntingly tragic rendition of their praised [...]
WATCH: St. Vincent and Isaac Brock guest star on Portlandia
Last night, hipster send-up comedy show Portlandia welcomed Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock and St. Vincent's Annie Clark to its ever-growing list of awesome guest stars. When Eddie Vedder first appeared on the show , it was hard to believe it could get much better. But last night, Clark performed as a model for Portland Police Department's new uniforms, sporting a corset and a sugar plum tutu. Brock appeared at the end of a PTA meeting as an over-zealous parent arguing what vinyl LPs [...]
Bon Iver won't be performing at The Grammys: “We kind of said ‘fuck you’”
Bon Iver is up for a handful of Grammys , and frontman Justin Vernon appeared digitally in a commercial for the awards show, but the indie-folk icons will not be performing at next Sunday's ceremonies. Though the boys were indeed asked to perform, there was a small catch: they had to collaborate with a more “well-known” act. “We kind of said ‘fuck you’ a little bit,” Vernon told Billboard , “and they sort of acted like they wanted us to play, but I don't think they wanted us to play.” Vernon [...]
LISTEN: Stream Air's new album Le Voyage Dans La Lune in full
As previously reported , French electro-pop duo Air’s newest LP, Le Voyage DansLa Lune , is a score composed for the 1902 Méliès landmark short film of the same name. It’s set for release in just a few days, but you can now stream the full record over at NPR. Spanning 11 tracks, the album is an expansion of the 14-minute film and includes collaborations with Au Revoir Simone and Beach House’s Victoria Legrand. The full package of the album includes a re-mastered version of Le Voyage DansLa [...]
