Anyone can contribute. Share, edit, or browse pages related to Canadian music.

Welcome to the Canadian Music Wiki, an online resource created by CBC Radio 3 and Amanda Ash from the University of British Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of MITACS Accelerate.

This project is dedicated to using collaborative and social media to enrich Canada's music scene by creating a comprehensive guide to Canadian music. We welcome your contributions.

The Canadian Music Wiki is a wiki, meaning you can edit nearly any page at any time. This wiki strives to encourage artists, media and fans alike to contribute their knowledge to this digital resource. We hope it will serve as Canada's hub for everything music-related. So don't be shy; head over to the Getting Started page and learn how you can contribute. It's easy and fun!

Here are a few brief guidelines to follow:

1. Please keep a neutral point-of-view when contributing. The wiki pages aren't for opinion or discussion. They're for facts, biographical information and basic knowledge. However, we encourage you to click on the "discussion" links on each page if you want to start a conversation or share your thoughts. We're sure others would love to hear what you have to say!

2. If you see something is wrong—whether it is grammatical, factual, or formatting—be bold and fix it. This is YOUR wiki. Be proud of it.

3. Please don't vandalize. It's really not worth it.

4. The Canadian Music Wiki is free content.

This site is a beta version. If you have any comments or suggestions to improve this wiki, please email amanda_ash@cbcradio3.com.

Shane MacGowan, Steven Tyler and the Big Book of Rock 'n' Roll Smiles
Last week, Pogues and Popes frontman Shane MacGowan announced that he intends to fix his rotten teeth in order to pursue a career in Hollywood. The English singer's smile, while unhealthy, has become his trademark over his 30-year career. MacGowan has become the foremost example of the effects of hard living on one's oral hygiene, as well as the embodiment of The Simpsons ' Big Book of British Smiles . While we'll miss that toothless grin, we acknowledge that this is a positive step. [...]
The fine art of stage banter
[Note: This special holiday edition of Raina's show was originally broadcast on April 23rd.] Pop quiz: what makes a studio recording different from a live show?  Okay, so you can probably think of a couple things... but for this quiz, the correct answer is... STAGE BANTER! Yes! When the artist you're there to see talks to the crowd, gets folks pumped up and provides a little personality between songs. Even the shyest musicians will at least whisper a "Thank-you" to their audience. [...]
Victoria's secret: the queen's ear trumpet and other weird instruments
It turns out Queen Victoria , the woman behind the first long weekend on the Canadian barbecue calendar, had a little secret. She owned and used an ear trumpet , an early hearing aid designed to amplify and direct sounds into the user's eardrum. The Queen very likely suffered hearing loss over the course of her long life. The ear trumpet that was specially built for her in 1880 looked like a cross between a car horn and a hairdryer. But in spite of its cumbersome appearance, the device allowed [...]
The Jazz Evangelist: is 'jazz-pop' making new jazz fans?
Choosing between styles of jazz is a bit like choosing between an Apple or Altair 8800 computer . Which would you prefer? "Jazz-pop," heard from Michael Bublé, Diana Krall and Rod Stewart, is a very popular form of music that the general public loves. Fans buy albums and concert tickets like it's a matter of life or death. That means Bublé, for example, recently sold out 10 back-to-back shows at London's O2 Arena . Bublé will perform London's series of shows in early July for more than [...]
Disc of the Week: Garrick Ohlsson plays Griffes
Here's your disc of the week for May 19, 2013. Each week CBC Radio 2's  In Concert  looks at new classical music releases and selects one recording that you'll want to know about. Artist:   Garrick Ohlsson , piano. Repertoire : Solo works for piano by Charles Tomlinson Griffes . Label:  Hyperion . Charles Tomlinson Griffes is little more than a footnote in the history of American classical music, remembered, if at all, for his charming  Poem  for flute and piano. But with the release [...]

R.I.P. House Producer and Daft Punk Collaborator Romanthony
Anthony Moore, the influential house producer better known as Romanthony, has passed away at the age of 46. He died at his home in Austin, Texas on May 7. Moore was an accomplished producer, singer and performer whose work spanned many decades. He was probably best know for his vocal contributions to Daft Punk's Discovery tracks "One More Time" and "Too Long." More recently, he had collaborated with Teengirl Fantasy and Boyz Noise. In addition to running his label Black Male Records, [...]
Drake Hits the Studio with Jay-Z, Added to 'Anchorman' Sequel
Kanye West's not the only rapper gearing up to release a highly anticipated new album this year, as Toronto rapper Drake also has a new record on the docket. That's not where the similarities end, either, as Drake's borrowed Yeezus's main collaborator. Drake was photographed in the studio with Jay-Z over the weekend. While its unclear whose album their work is intended for, the above image was posted to a Roc Nation affiliate's Instagram account with the caption "Warning: Please be very [...]
Kanye West Shares 'Yeezus' Album Art
Yesterday was a big one for Kanye West after word got out that his new album would be called Yeezus before performing two songs on Saturday Night Live . Now, he's shared the album's artwork. Far from a hi-res version of the cover, the above image was shared on Kanye's site along with a preorder link, though both were quickly removed. The jewel case cover is packed with black and gold, and what looks like a melted statue, while it's held shut with red tape. Seemingly confirming both [...]
Kanye West to Name New Album 'Yeezus'?
We're still unsure if Kanye West will release his new album on June 18, but the confirmation edges closer each day as more information leaks. After last night's premiere of a "New Slaves", some blogs are reporting that the album also has a confirmed title. Originally thought to be called I Am a God , the new alleged title continues to hold up Kanye's God complex. According to Rap-Up , the album's called Yeezus . No other sources have confirmed the information, but with Kanye West [...]
