Alex Ookpik is a Montréaler who writes, performs and produces avant-pop and electroacoustic music.
Her music bridges the worlds of pop and experimental music; taking in
acoustic instruments, synthesis, field recordings, and studio
manipulations.

Former lead-singer, co-songwriter and keyboard player for the Montreal post-rock/shoe gaze band Marlowe (1995-2005), she
has shared the stage with: Tindersticks, Snowpony (ex-My Bloody
Valentine & Stereolab), April March, The Dears, Stars, The Besnard
Lakes, Feist, The High Dials, and The Organ. She has also contributed
vocals to songs with Raising the Fawn, Anne Bourne, and Clara
Engel-co-producing her record "Secret Beasts".
She has held down DJ residencies in Montreal and Toronto at Roy Bar, Green
Room, Cameron House and Cocktail Molotov, and played venues such as The Beaver, Blizzarts, O Patro Vys, and Casa Del Popolo.
She played synth with Melissa Boraski's Toronto ambient
band Eiyn Sof, participating in Toronto’s X-Avant festival.
In 2009 she premiered her original music and sound design for Stranger, Praxis Theatre’s stage adaptation of Camus’s “L’Etranger”. Her work for theatre has also included sound design for Cart/Horse Theatre's 2008 Fringe Festival hit "Rum and Vodka".
Her music has appeared in the films “The Independents” and “Stand Sentry”.
In 2010, her electroacoutic piece "Rust" was featured in both the Vermillion Mix and Canada mix of Vox Novus's 60x60 and was presented at Concordia's FOFA Gallery as part of the Congress for Humanities (May 30th) with live improvising dancers; as well as in New York at ICMC 2010; at the Electronic Studio of the Technical University Berlin; in Latina, Italy at Conservatorio di musica "Ottorino Respighi"; and at The University of Minnesota.
